Statement from Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, executive director and CEO of MomsRising.org, on President Obama’s announcement of executive action on immigration policy
“Across the country, moms and their families are celebrating President Obama’s important action to address the contributions and needs of millions of aspiring Americans--including women, moms, and children. Women and children make up nearly three quarters of the undocumented immigrant population, make important contributions to our nation and economy, and have a critical impact in our country’s labor force and home life.
It is clear that our economy and communities will benefit from this action. Millions of immigrant women are part of the fabric of our communities, workplaces, families and schools but have been stopped from achieving their full potential because of the failed immigration system. President Obama’s actions will allow millions of immigrants to more openly embrace these roles and create stronger, healthier communities around the country, as well as to help build our economy.
Now is the time for Congress to take President Obama’s lead and enact bold and broad immigration policies that permanently fix our broken system. When working families have safety and economic opportunities, we are a better America."
