America's Moms Applaud New Standards for Gasoline and Motor Vehicle Emissions
“Every single one of us breathes air and in too many communities - especially in urban areas - that air is the source of dangerous and sometimes deadly pollutants that can trigger asthma attacks or cause lung disease. Cars, light trucks and SUVs are the source of many of those pollutants, meaning we can solve this problem. The Environmental Protection Agency's new standards are an important part of that solution.
“By raising the standards for tailpipe pollution and sulfur content in gasoline, the EPA is taking a big step toward improving public health and the health of our families. MomsRising is proud to join environmental groups, public health advocates and even the auto industry in applauding these new standards and the Obama Administration's commitment to improving the health of our nation's families.
“Because of these new standards, fewer of our kids will suffer dangerous and debilitating asthma attacks, and fewer people with lung and heart disease will be placed at risk by merely breathing the air. When they are finally implemented, these new standards will save up to 2,000 lives, prevent 19,000 asthma attacks, and help us avoid nearly 300,000 missed days of work and school annually, by 2030. That's good news for our health, our kids’ academic achievement and our families' economic security.
“The new standards will make our kids, our families, our communities and our nation healthier."
