26,000 Join MomsRising Campaign Urging FedEx to Withdraw from NRA Business Alliance
A new petition from MomsRising, a national online and on-the-ground organization of more than 1 million mothers and their families, demands that FedEx withdraw from the NRA Business Alliance and end its support for the National Rifle Association.
The petition, addressed to Frederick Smith, chairman, president and CEO of FedExCorp, notes that FedEx is currently a member of the National Rifle Association’s Business Alliance, and grants large discounts for NRA members, a generous perk that encourages people to join the NRA, adopt its gun culture and build the NRA’s power. More than 26,000 moms and others have signed onto the petition since it launched last week.

“The NRA works hard to flood our communities with firearms and fosters a ‘guns everywhere’ culture that encourages people to pick up a gun every chance they get, whether for sport or supposed self-defense. With more than 300 million guns in circulation in the United States and a ‘guns everywhere’ culture, it's no wonder 100,000 Americans are injured or killed with guns every year,” explained Gloria Pan, national campaign director for MomsRising. “American businesses that serve families and communities, especially an iconic brand like FedEx, should have no part in helping to perpetuate even more gun sales and lethal gun culture. FedEx needs to cut its NRA ties, sending a message to the gun lobby and reassuring the communities it serves that it does not condone the NRA’s extremist agenda.”
According to MomsRising, FedEx helps support the NRA and its agenda by being part of the NRA Business Alliance and offering NRA members generous discounts. MomsRising notes that this means that FedEx is supporting an agenda that aims to eliminate gun-free zones at schools and houses of worship, gut criminal background checks for gun sales, and get rid of all permitting requirements for people who want to conceal-carry their weapons.
“With more than 20,000 children injured or killed by guns each year, and more than 33,000 gun deaths last year alone – the status quo is NOT acceptable. The tens of thousands of victims of gun violence deserve common sense gun safety reform measures – including background checks for gun purchases and a ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines. The NRA opposes this agenda, which is why FedEx needs to sever ties to the dangerous gun lobby,” added Pan.
