Moms Leader Celebrates Failure of the House Farm Bill, Calling It a Victory for America’s Families

“The moms of America can breathe a sigh of relief now that the Republican Farm Bill failed on the floor of the House of Representatives. The rejection of this bill is a victory for America’s families, because it includes callous, new requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that would take food assistance away from people who do not work a set number of hours. The proposed changes to SNAP would have stripped food assistance away from millions, including children. Its failure is a victory for moms, families, children, our economy and our country.
“Moms across the country spoke out against this bill, and House members listened. More than 57,000 MomsRising members signed a petition urging the House to reject this bill. Our members made more than 1,000 calls to their representatives and delivered more than 2,500 letters to in-district offices all with the same message: “Hands off SNAP!” Thousands shared personal stories emphasizing their need for food and nutrition assistance with their elected officials. It’s thanks to the advocacy of moms around the country that struggling families won’t have to worry about being able to put food on the table.
“We thank every member of Congress who heard our stories and voted against this atrocious bill. We now urge them to continue supporting parents and children by prioritizing policies that lift up families, rather than misguided proposals that tear them down.”
