WASHINGTON, DC -- MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, today endorsed the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants Act (“NO BAN Act”). This civil rights bill would end the Muslim Ban and amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of religion, ensuring that no president can ever again ban an entire community without accountability.
The NO BAN Act was introduced this morning by U.S. Senator Chris Coons (Del.) and U.S Representative Judy Chu (Calif.).
“The Muslim ban is a stain on our country. It has prevented Americans from reuniting with loved ones, caused patients to go without life-saving health care, prevented young people from getting an education, denied children time with parents and grandparents, and more,” said MomsRising Executive Director and CEO Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner. “We are profoundly concerned that it has intensified the bigotry, hatred and Islamophobia that President Trump so often stokes, and contributed to the increase in hate crimes against Muslims in our country and around the world.”
“We commend U.S. Senator Coons and U.S. Representative Chu for introducing and championing this bill,” added Khadija Gurnah, MomsRising Campaign Director for Immigration. “The moms of America will fight to #repealtheban.”
A broad-based coalition of more than 400 faith, civil rights, national security and community organizations announced their support for the NO BAN Act today.
