“Yesterday the U.S. House of Representatives took an important step to secure and protect the health care that moms and families rely on by passing H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. This legislation would protect coverage for those of us with pre-existing conditions; protect people from ‘junk’ plans which invite discrimination and are without essential consumer protections; and help address the skyrocketing costs of prescription medications. It also would restore essential funding for outreach, enrollment and consumer assistance that will strengthen the health exchanges millions of consumers use to find the health plans they need. We thank House leaders and every representative who voted to pass this bill, which can improve the health and well-being of America’s moms and families.

“The Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act absolutely deserves speedy consideration – and passage – by the U.S. Senate. It must not become another casualty of Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s legislative graveyard.
