House of Representatives Delivers Historic Victory for Immigrant Families -- and for America

Statement of leaders of MomsRising, an online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on House passage of the DREAM and Promise Act of 2019:

“We commend the House of Representatives for passing H.R. 6, the DREAM and Promise Act of 2019, which would put more than 2 million people with deep roots in our country on a path to become U.S. citizens or permanent residents. This bill would support what the vast majority of Americans want: Allowing immigrant youth who were born and raised here, people with temporary protected status or deferred enforced departure to stay in the country they have long called home. It would stabilize communities, support our economy, and help alleviate the crisis the Trump administration created with its mean-spirited denial of protections for DREAMers and its many attacks on immigrant families."

"It is noteworthy that the DREAM and Promise Act, which reflects real American values, passed the House with bipartisan support. We urge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to bring it to the floor, where every U.S. Senator should support passage. This essential legislation must not become another victim of McConnell’s legislative graveyard, where bill after bill the country urgently needs is buried. This is a historic moment and we need the U.S. Senate to act now.
