Today’s Vote Was a Truth Test for U.S. Senators Who Promised to Protect Health Coverage for People with Pre-Existing Conditions. 52 Republicans Failed, Giving the Trump Administration a Greenlight to Continue Sabotaging Our Care.

“Today’s vote on the resolution to block the Trump administration’s 1332 waiver rule—which would have prevented the administration from pushing bare-bones ‘junk’ health plans that allow discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions—was a truth test for those who promised to protect health coverage for the more than 130 million people with pre-existing conditions. Unfortunately for the country, 52 Republican U.S. Senators failed that test.
“Because of this vote, many people with chronic and pre-existing conditions—the majority of whom are women—could soon be without affordable options for health care coverage. More people will invest their hard-earned money in discriminatory, inadequate junk plans that fail to cover prescription medications and maternity and mental health care, waive coverage for essential health benefits, limit care, and fail to provide the basic consumer protections we all need and deserve.”

“Today’s vote is a greenlight from the U.S. Senate for the Trump administration to continue sabotaging the protections ensured to all of us by the Affordable Care Act, and to put meaningful coverage out of reach for millions of people with pre-existing conditions. America’s moms will long remember how every senator voted today.”
