Calling Skyrocketing Cost of Prescription Drugs a 'Growing National Crisis,' MomsRising Urges Speedy Passage of H.R. 3
Lisa Lederer, 202-371-1996
“Moms across our country are gravely concerned about the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs. Our members tell us every day that they, family members or friends are rationing or going without lifesaving medications they need because they cannot afford to pay for them. This is a growing national crisis and it is completely unacceptable.
“We need the U.S. House of Representatives to pass H.R. 3, the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act, next week, and the U.S. Senate to fast-track it immediately afterward. This bill would save lives by giving Medicare the power to negotiate costs directly with drug companies and it would make the prices negotiated by Medicare available to all of us – even those with private health insurance. It would prevent drug companies from ripping us off while charging much less to people in other countries. And it would create a new $2,000 out-of-pocket limit on prescription drug costs for those on Medicare.
“Lowering drug prices is a very high priority for America’s moms. We demand that the House pass this legislation and that it not become another captive of Mitch McConnell’s legislative graveyard. Congress must outlaw the price-gouging by pharmaceutical companies and prioritize our health over corporate greed. Lives depend on it.”
