America Is Better Off Now that Congress Has Passed the American Rescue Plan

“COVID-19 relief is on the way. More families will get unemployment checks large enough to cover their food, shelter and other essentials. Our child care system will be stronger and more stable. More of us will be able to access the vaccines and health care we need. There will be less hunger and homelessness in America. More schools will be able to reopen safely. Fewer moms and families with children will fall into poverty and remain stuck there for years because our tax system will work better for low-income families. More women will be able to hold and succeed in jobs. Our families and our economy will have the chance to recover.
“That is the promise of the American Rescue Act, now that Congress has finished its work and sent this bill to President Biden to sign. It will help end a year of unprecedented pain, stress, suffering and death that have taken an enormous toll on America’s families, and especially on communities of color that have suffered the most due to structural racism that has gone unchecked for generations. It will help put our country on a path to progress and prosperity.
“America’s moms thank the Democratic leadership in Congress who moved this plan forward, President Biden and Vice President Harris for their rock-solid commitment to getting the American Rescue Plan across the finish line. America is better off because of it. Next, we need lawmakers to finish the work, including by building a care economy that provides paid leave for everyone, always; guarantees hard-working people a minimum wage of $15 per hour; closes the wage gap and ensures fair pay for all; makes permanent the improvements to the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit begun here; and creates a path to citizenship for immigrants. America’s moms urge lawmakers to take on those essential issues next.”
