“We applaud the Biden Administration’s decision to end Trump’s harmful and disastrous public charge regulation that kept parents and children from seeking much needed resources to thrive during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Now that federal courts have dismissed the government’s appeals, the Trump public charge policy is no longer in effect, nationwide. Every federal agency must now leverage every available communication channel to communicate to immigrant families that it’s safe to access health, nutrition, and housing programs they qualify for.

“The Biden-Harris Administration’s recent decision to expand TPS to thousands of Venezuelans is a great step in the right direction that will help keep families together here in the United States. We urge the administration to also provide immediate protections for other immigrant groups in danger and extend TPS for Haiti, Cameroon, and Mauritania. More than 5 million undocumented immigrants have been working as essential workers, helping uphold our country and economy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite their hard work, immigrants are still being deported, including immigrants from Haiti, which is now engulfed in political turmoil. There are immediate and permanent solutions the Biden administration and Congress can take including passing the American Dream & Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which would transform the lives of more than 4 million people.

“We recognize these victories for the immigrant community, but we must pursue every possible avenue to deliver permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship without delay. That includes providing permanent solutions so that no more families will be separated and a pandemic response that recognizes the roles immigrants have played on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19. Immigrant communities deserve a path to citizenship; it is long overdue for Congress to recognize the integral role that they play in our communities and in the nation.”
