Dozens of Moms to Come to U.S. Capitol to Tell Congress: Solve the Child Care Crisis Now!
Magen Eisenstat, 202/371-1996
On Thursday, October 12, at 5:30 PM ET, members of Congress will join more than 30 MomsRising members from around the country who have struggled to access quality, affordable child care for a photo on the steps of the U.S. Capitol (House side). The moms will hold signs calling on Congress to invest in child care as well as storybooks containing real-life examples of how the child care crisis harms kids, families, businesses and our economy.
Federal COVID relief funding for child care expired on September 30, and researchers estimate as many as 3 million children could lose access to child care as a result. When families can’t access quality child care and preschool, kids miss out on essential early learning opportunities, parents are forced to leave their jobs or reduce their hours, and our nation’s businesses and economy suffer.
WHO: Members of Congress, MomsRising Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner and other MomsRising leaders, and more than 30 moms from around the country who have struggled with child care
WHAT: Photo opportunity to send a message about the urgent need to solve our nation’s child care crisis
WHEN: 5:30 pm ET, Thursday, October 12
