Republican-Led States Sow Cruelty and Chaos by Convincing a Court to Temporarily Halt Program to Keep Immigrant Families Together
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“It is disgraceful that 16 Republican-led states were able to convince a federal judge in Texas to temporarily halt the Biden/Harris administration’s historic and humane Parole in Place policy. It removes barriers in order to help keep immigrant and mixed-status families together by allowing some undocumented immigrant spouses who are married to U.S. citizens and have deep roots in our country to get work permits and apply for green cards. The program offers an opportunity to keep parents and kids together while parents apply for protections from deportation and a green card, instead of forcing them to leave the United States and leave their families during the often-years-long period while their application is being processed. In doing so, it keeps families together and strengthens our communities and our economy.
“Opponents are sowing cruelty and chaos, and their baseless, harmful lawsuit should be dismissed. Moms want leaders to do right by all children. We know all children deserve to live in peace and without fear of being separated from their parents. America’s moms have long recognized immigrants as our neighbors, friends, and colleagues who make our nation more successful. We know the Parole in Place program will strengthen our country’s caregiving workforce, which is an urgent priority not just for moms, but also for families, businesses and our economy. Yet this lawsuit threatens that. Moms expect courts to reject this lawsuit and want families to know that they can still apply for relief from the Parole in Place program, although their application will not be processed until this lawsuit is resolved. Information on how to apply is here.”
