Billionaires Win, Moms and Families Lose in Reckless Republican Budget Resolution U.S. House of Representatives Passed This Evening

“Massive tax breaks for billionaires and wealthy corporations. Hunger, hardship, health crises, and other harms for America’s moms and families– and an even larger deficit for the country.
“That’s what would result from the reckless, irresponsible budget resolution that Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives passed this evening, if it were to become law. That must never happen.
“Moms want lawmakers to enact a federal budget that funds essential programs that protect our health, provide food and nutritional support, improve education, and make quality, affordable child care available to all families. We reject proposals that give even more enormous tax breaks to the wealthiest among us while gutting Medicaid – which would exacerbate our already-devastating maternal health crisis and undermine care for people with disabilities, older adults, children, and low-income families – as well as SNAP, WIC, Head Start, the Affordable Care Act, and other programs that help working families make ends meet, contribute and survive.
“Also alarming is the fact that this budget resolution would do absolutely nothing to lower costs for families or boost our economy, while funding cruel, indiscriminate deportations and inhumane detention of law-abiding, hardworking, tax-paying immigrants who are essential to our communities and our economy.
“Moms want the wealthiest individuals and corporations to finally pay their fair share in taxes so we can make the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent and fund child care, health care, food and nutritional assistance, paid family and medical leave, and care for seniors and people with disabilities. House Republicans have all the wrong priorities.”
