PRESIDENT BIDEN LIFTS CARE!

In no small part due to your efforts, including sharing your stories, signing petitions, posting on social media, going to meetings, and calling leaders over the past many years, we had a history-making moment this month. President Biden stood alongside MomsRising and other organizations and committed to working to finally pass 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave, affordable child care, aging and disability care, fair pay for care workers, and an expanded Child Tax Credit. He is right that doing all that will lift our economy and our families. It was a remarkable moment that raised the bar for all other leaders to reach, shifted the narrative, and put even more momentum behind these policies. Big wins!

MomsRising members were a big part of the #CareCantWait Rally, and also participated in the #CareCantWait Town Hall the next day, including by sharing a personal care story and posing a question to the U.S. Senators who joined us.

MomsRising Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner (center, bottom photo), Senior Vice President Xochtil Oseguera (middle photo), and local MomsRising volunteer Taylor Moyer from Virginia Beach all spoke on the same stage as President Biden, highlighting the urgent need to address the care crisis.

MOM POWER 2024

With your support, we brought together 41 powerful moms (plus many babies, kids, and caregivers) from 25 states for our 2024 Mom Power Bootcamp in Washington, D.C.! The volunteers shared their stories, engaged in leadership development, grew their advocacy skills, and participated in GOTV tactic trainings to gear up for the 2024 election and continue building MOMentum to advance child care – and are fired up to get out the mom vote! The moms immediately put their power into practice with events on Capitol Hill and at the White House.

This MOMentum-building meet-up also included our Toddlers’ Choice Awards to celebrate child care champions, including U.S. Senator Patty Murray (WA), House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (MA), Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Representatives Suzanne Bonamici (OR), and Jimmy Gomez (CA).

SAVING THE LIVES OF MOMS

In April the MomsRising community celebrated the seventh annual Black Maternal Health Week, founded by our partners at Black Mamas Matter Alliance. Black Maternal Health Week is a week of awareness, activism, and community building where the voices of Black Mamas are centered.

We invited people to share their birth stories (read these powerful stories on our Instagram) and to call on Congress to pass the Black Maternal Health Momnibus, a packet of legislation that takes urgent, serious action to end the maternal health crisis.

Thank you for supporting this work to ensure that every person who becomes pregnant or gives birth has access to a safe, healthy, and respectful experience.

APRIL SHOWERS BRING MOM POWER

Mom Power surged on the ground in 19 states this April as more than 300 moms and caregivers led 52 creative (and colorful!) local story-sharing and power-building activities to celebrate and advocate for the care infrastructure that we, our businesses, and our economy need, including: Affordable Childcare, Paid Family/Medical Leave, Aging and Disability Care, Fair Pay for Care Workers, and Maternal Health Equity.
