I spent most of the weekend watching the debate in the Senate on the stimulus bill, or listening to people talk about the debate on the stimulus bill. I know I am suffering from stimulus bill overload, but before I go stick my head in an ice bucket, I want to make the following points.

Imagine this: a user-friendly website where, with free and easy access, mothers who have given birth within the last three years provide detailed feedback about their birth experiences at the one end, and parents-to-be will soon be able to retrieve the pooled reporting on local providers and facilities at the other end, all anonymously and nationwide. But no need to imagine, and this is a first!

Last week, President Obama signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act -- his first new law as president, and a bill long championed by Connecticut's own Rosa DeLauro. In his speech to mark the occasion , he drew a direct connection between supporting fair pay practices, and the economic security of our country:

A couple weeks back I circulated Jill Lepore's New Yorker article about the breast pump to my closest friends of facebook. The article raised some hackles from friends who felt like it was too critical of the commitment made by pumping mamas. And what is to criticize? Pumping takes a heroic effort.

It's time to celebrate again! Yesterday, President Obama signed into law an expanded State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), bringing healthcare to 11 million children. Thank you for the more than 135,000 letters you sent this year in support of a strong SCHIP! You rock!
