Statement “Among the lessons from the pandemic is that our country will be stronger and healthier, our businesses and economy stronger, if we put in place a permanent, comprehensive paid leave program. During the pandemic, emergency paid leave has improved the public health, staved off the spread of contagion, and saved lives. The same will be true when the pandemic ends. Congress must pass the FAMILY (Family and Medical Insurance Leave) Act this year, so working people will be able to care for their families and maintain their health without risking their jobs or economic security.

Statement “Today’s introduction of the Dream Act in the U.S. Senate is an important step toward restoring our values and recognizing the tremendous contribution immigrants make to our health and prosperity. America’s moms strongly support this bipartisan legislation, which will help create a roadmap to citizenship for nearly 2 million undocumented young people in the only country most have ever called home. We applaud the young immigrant activists who have fought so passionately, for so long, for this bill, and thank the bi-partisan U.S. Senators who are introducing and championing it.

Statement “America’s moms applaud the Biden administration’s commitment to reuniting the children who were cruelly and unethically taken away from their parents by our federal government, led by President Trump. Families belong together and our country has an urgent responsibility to leave no stone unturned in reuniting those families and doing everything possible to support their recovery from the horrific trauma they have endured.

Statement “The moms of America are grateful to President Biden for acting quickly and decisively to begin reversing the damage from the previous administration’s unethical, relentless attacks on our health care. Today’s actions by President Biden mean that nearly 9 million people will be eligible for free or subsidized health insurance coverage.

Statement “Moms and women of color have been disproportionately harmed by the COVID pandemic’s economic fallout. We simply cannot turn the economy around and build back better unless we end the pervasive undervaluing of women’s work and pass policies that address and root out the compounding effects of ableism, racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia in hiring and wage discrimination. In the United States today, Black women are paid just 63 cents, Native American women just 60 cents, and Latinas just 55 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men.

Statement “There is no doubt that mass incarceration has caused devastating and disproportionate harm to Black, Brown, and low-income communities – with the harm often felt for generations. Private prisons have grown into a billion-dollar industry, despite clear evidence that they are, and have long been, plagued by inhumane conditions and substandard staff training, and despite the fact that they exploit the labor of incarcerated people and subject them to work conditions that harken back to slave labor.

Statement “The pandemic has exposed an urgent need for sweeping national policy solutions to help moms, families, businesses and our economy. Structural inequality and discrimination have left many women -- particularly moms who are Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) – in continued financial crisis, and the pandemic has made it even worse. Many working people, including millions of women of color and essential workers, are not paid a living wage. Nobody should work full-time and still live in poverty, which hurts families, businesses, and our economy too.

Statement “America’s moms applaud the smart, responsive, badly needed actions the Biden-Harris administration is taking to quickly require federal contractors to provide their workers with emergency paid leave and pay them at least $15 per hour. During the pandemic, working people need paid leave so they can quarantine, recover, or stay home to care for a sick relative or a child whose child care program or school is closed or operating only virtually – and all workers will continue to need paid leave after the pandemic ends.

Statement “In the very first hours after President Biden and Vice President Harris took office, they began implementing their positive, proactive, bold new immigration policy, which puts Trump’s racism and xenophobia firmly in the past by replacing cruelty and chaos with humanity, fairness and functionality.

Statement “Today in America, hope and promise replace fear and division. This new day ushers in a new era in which we will mourn our losses, heal our wounds, rebuild our communities, and move toward realizing the promise of a country in which we come together to help each other thrive. Even as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were being sworn into office, they had already offered hope and solutions to the pandemic and the economic devastation it has wrought, and for an end to the violence and division that have no place in our democracy.
