Yesterday the President announced the formation of the White House Council on Women and Girls. This is a very high level group comprised of Cabinet Secretaries and the directors of numerous federal agencies. Acknowledging the contributions of women to society, the President intends the council to coordinate a federal response to the issues they face and ensure fair treatment in all matters of public policy. Objectives for the next 12 months include improving the economic status of women, promoting work/family balance within the federal government, decreasing domestic violence both at home and abroad, enhancing access to and quality of healthcare for women and their families.
