Happy Halloween! This week, we asked you on our Facebook page what your best non-toxic tips are for this Halloween. Here are a few of our favorite tips and links for this Halloween!
Heather McMeekan: "I'm giving out 'color', 'shape', and 'number' flash cards to the kids. The little ones seem to love them." and "Candy goes to the freezer & becomes the fodder for the Christmas Gingerbread House."
"Candy Insanity, Halloween Here We Come" from Spoonfed: http://www.spoonfedblog.net/2010/10/20/candy-insanity-halloween-here-we-...
Rachel McLain Browne: One thing we've done in the past to keep from gathering a lot of candy we won't eat which just seems to be a terrible waste, is to reverse trick or treat. We pass out natural candy to the houses we visit. It's always fun to see people's reactions when we tell them we are giving *them* candy.
Also, in the past we have gathered food for the local food bank as well. We went around the neighborhood and left notes on everyone's door saying we would be gathering cans on Halloween and just pulled a wagon after us to put the cans into.
Linda M. Rose: "Take a few moments, look at toys u own, this year my son gets to be a knight, no purchase needed, the breast plate, shield, helmet & dark clothing & cape all in use. just never put all together! He's so excited!"
Lisa Frack: "EWG's Halloween tips are pretty handy: http://www.ewg.org/healthyhometips/halloweentips"
Lisa Massey Cain: "Here are my healthy Halloween tipshttp://www.snack-girl.com/snack/top-ten-healthy-halloween-tips/"
Marie Walz: "You can do anything with paper mache, and recycle your random paper! We did a pumpkin head mask with an old sheet for a "ghost" body last year. And cardboard boxes are the best for robots of course."
Nicole Johns: "Make your own costumes is cheap and easy with the right preparation. We will also adopt the 'switch witch' tactic for less candy consumption. My son can trade in sweets for other prizes, left by the switch witch."
