I was a student when my husband left me to care for our one year old by myself. I had to quit school and move back in with my mother to make it work. I used to work at a Coffee Bean just for the insurance, but the childcare costs were more than my hourly wage! I knew I had to go back to school if I were going to have a chance at providing for my family. Because I was able to find coverage for my family through Medicaid, I was able to go back. This year I am proud to say I have a four-year University degree.

I have a job now that is meaningful and actually helps people like me, and it's a telecommute job so I don't have to worry about childcare! I would not qualify for this job without my education. That is so much better than slinging lattes for change, and not just for myself, but for my daughter, who now knows the importance of an education through my example, as well as everyone in society, who will benefit for giving me the opportunity to develop my potential while raising a healthy member of society!

I plan on applying to Graduate Schools this fall. If Medicaid is cut, I will not be able to do this!
