“I’m so overjoyed and relieved!  I will be able to sleep soundly for the first time in months now knowing that the Supreme Court won’t allow the insurance industry to put a cap on my daughter’s healthcare or punish her for a pre-existing condition that is no fault of her own.”

This is how MomsRising member Julie Walters, whose 5-year-old daughter has a rare health condition and was facing a lifetime limit to her health coverage before the Affordable Care Act was passed, reacted after learning that the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act this morning.

We agree: Hooray!  And what a relief!

This is truly a great day for Julie--and also for millions of other families. The Affordable Care Act makes healthcare coverage more secure by ensuring that working families cannot be denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition, or lose their coverage when someone gets sick.  It also will give millions of Americans the chance to buy more affordable health coverage and offer them the chance to buy the same coverage members of Congress have.

But the fight for healthcare isn’t over yet. Even before the ink was dry on the Supreme Court decision upholding the Affordable Care Act this morning, some corporate lobbyists and politicians were continuing to try to find a way to gut families’ access to healthcare by undermining this critical law that protects healthcare consumers – playing politics with our health, instead of working to create jobs and strengthen our economy. [1]

We need to counter these attacks. We need to move forward to fully implement the law so that everyone who needs healthcare has healthcare. And we need to keep up the fight to protect healthcare for our children and families!

To do this we need to raise $20,000 to bring forward the full force of moms and dads to protect access to healthcare for our kids, and our families – by speaking out to people running for office this November by reaching out to members of Congress, and also by mobilizing the mom vote!

Will you help us by chipping in $20 right now?

(Why $20?  There are just 20 weeks left between now and the general election on November 6th!)

With the election season heating up, our best opportunity to protect our new healthcare rights is to create multiple ways for moms to influence leaders and candidates who are running for office – letting them know that American families support health reform and will not go back to the bad days when insurance companies held all of the cards, and American families had few if any protections against the industry’s abuses.

Through our MomsVote 2012 program, MomsRising will raise the voices of moms and dads in our country who can share how the Affordable Care Act is helping their families and advocate for full implementation.

We can't do it without you. Chip in $20 to power-up MomsVotes 2012 to make sure health care is protected.

With your support, we’ll put Julie's story and the hundreds of other stories like hers out in the media and before candidates during election season.  We’ll ramp up quickly so we can raise the voices of women and mothers in the national political conversation, educating the candidates about what really matters the most to women and moms, registering women to vote, and more.

Our campaign will help educate people about what the Affordable Care Act has already done and what it will continue to do when it is fully implemented.   In the last two years, the Affordable Care Act has:

  • Provided coverage for 3.1 million young adults who would have otherwise been uninsured [2]
  • Secured coverage for 5 million children and will secure coverage for the 50% of Americans who have pre-existing conditions. [3]
  • Protected 105 million Americans from lifetime limits on insurance coverage [4]
  • Provided 54 million Americans with at least one preventative health service without a co-pay or deductible payment [5]

To protect these health coverage protections and many more, we can't back down now!

Please remember to share this message with your friends and family right now so we can expand our campaign to stand up for health reform.
