Thanks to the new USDA nutritional standards for school meals and snacks, the days of junky snacks and greasy lunches are ending! Most moms and dads are thrilled with these changes. In fact, a new poll shows that parents support healthier school food policies by a 3-to-1 margin! (1)

As parents, we know that when our kids eat healthy foods, they not only perform better at school, but they also learn healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Now, we must keep the momentum up at the local level. As moms and dads, we know a little encouragement and persistence can go a long way.

Help us tell school administrators that parents are excited about these changes, and ready to help schools succeed in implementing them! http://action.momsrising.org/signup/BTSdelivery_2014/

Let's bring that same parent-energy we use to encourage kids to tie their shoes, do their homework, and eat veggies to our schools! Can you help us give local schools the boost and encouragement they need to ensure healthy school foods are a success?

Schools really need to hear from us! Believe it or not, there are still some very vocal voices pushing to roll back these important changes.

We're delivering storybooks to local schools containing testimonials from moms and dads; handy resources for teachers, school administrators, cafeteria staff and parents; and profiles of schools that have succeeded in making the new changes. We're also including a small gift to thank staff for their hard work.

We can do this! Delivering a storybook can be easy and fun. We know that as parents, and as moms, our voices have tremendous influence. Dropping one off at your child's school (or a school in your area if you don't have kids in school) will make a huge difference!

Can you join us, and deliver a storybook to a school near you? It will only take a few minutes, and we'll provide all of the materials you'll need (including the storybook itself, sample language, and tips for the visit). http://action.momsrising.org/signup/BTSdelivery_2014/

Based on the latest nutrition science and the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the new school meal standards make great sense. School lunches now include more fruits, vegetables and whole grain-rich foods; only fat-free or low-fat milk; “right size” meals with portions designed for a child's age; and less saturated fat, trans fat and sodium. [2] As one in three kids in the US is at increased risk for nutrition-related diseases like Type II Diabetes, this is great news for kids and families! [3]

Moms and dads do what we can to keep kids healthy at home, but we rely on schools to keep them healthy during the school day. Help us remind schools we're excited to support their implementation of the healthy food standards!

Thank you! Together we're a voice for healthy kids and families!
