Moms Gather in Florida

I will always equate Amaya Papaya with birth and celebration.

Yolonda, the creator and Chief Executive Mami of Amaya Papaya opened her doors in 2009. I'd known her as a counselor when I volunteered to lead her girls in a reading group.

That same year, I found myself in a childbirth class that met at her establishment. Birth. New beginnings.

Fast forward to 2015 and there I was again. Pregnant. But this time, I wasn't carrying a baby. I was carrying ideas, hope and an overwhelming drive to ensure that we stand for the women and families of Florida.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Yolonda, a mother to a nine year old girl and Ashlei who held her adorable 4-month old baby boy while we chatted and watched Motherhood Manifesto. Through the "are you serious?" and "I can't believe that!" comments, we spoke about childcare and how so many moms that visit Amaya Papaya (an indoor play place) comment to Yolonda about how people think that they are well off because the moms stay home. In fact, those moms are staying home because after adding up the cost of childcare, it would make no sense for them to work since most (if not all) of their check would be going towards paying daycare costs.

The Frog Princess is ready to work for moms and families in Florida!

I have heard this over and over again. It is my hope that we can start making changes soon. Our kids (and our moms) deserve better!

But, I digress. A good time was had by all. And we were all inspired by Motherhood Manifesto. Have you seen the documentary?
