500,000.
That’s how many hard-working uninsured North Carolinians are waiting for Governor McCrory to use money already available to make affordable health coverage available through expanding Medicaid. They shouldn’t have to wait any longer.
On Thursday, July 16th, MomsRising and our statewide partners are hosting in-person events across the state to encourage Governor McCrory to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. RSVP for an event near you:
Let us know if you can join us to show your support for extending health coverage to 500,000 low-income adults in our state!
When your RSVP, we’ll send you details about where we’ll meet up and how to get there!
As we hold these media events throughout the state, your presence will show the media and our leaders that North Carolinians support extending health coverage to low-income uninsured adults in our state! You don’t need to prepare anything - just come and show your support.
Tragically, it’s estimated that over 1,000 North Carolinians will die each year as a result of not having health insurance. Lives are quite literally on the line, but Governor McCrory and our state lawmakers are playing politics while time is running out for some North Carolinians.
We all have a stake in making health coverage more accessible! A recent economic analysis found that if lawmakers act to expand Medicaid right away, North Carolina will generate $1 billion in related tax revenue and create 43,000 jobs through 2020. In addition, closing the coverage gap would save the state budget more than $300 million in that same time frame. [1] The money has already been set aside for us, all our state has to do is bring our tax dollars home to help half a million North Carolinians get health insurance.
Help us call on Governor McCrory to be a leader for our state by expanding Medicaid!
Most of the North Carolinians who would be Medicaid-eligible if our state were to expand the program are adults who are employed and work in retail, food preparation, hospitality, service industries, and agriculture. North Carolina’s economy relies heavily on these individuals and they deserve to have access to the preventative care they need and to be able to see a doctor when they get sick.
These are also our friends, neighbors, and family members. Our loved ones will continue to suffer the consequences of not having health coverage until our lawmakers decide to fix this. This is terrible for our families and for our economy!
