Donald Trump continues to shock us with his bullying behavior—but bullying in this administration isn’t limited to Donald Trump’s twitter account.
Unbelievably, Republicans in the U.S. Senate, along with Trump, are trying to pass a health care bill that will rip coverage from 22 million people and make massive cuts to our nation’s very successful Medicaid program—which primarily serves low-income pregnant women and children, elderly people, and people living with disabilities.
Only bullies pick on infants and children, the elderly, and people with disabilities!

What makes this bill so bad? The U.S. Senate’s horrible “Better Care Reconciliation Act” would take health care away from 22 million people, raise costs and gut protections for those who don’t lose their coverage altogether, and make coverage unaffordable for those who need it most. If the U.S. Senate bill becomes law, the health insurance plans that are available would be more expensive, less adequate and offer fewer protections – in many cases, excluding coverage for mental health care, maternity care, birth control and prescription drugs.
There’s even more bad news. The bill would also allow insurance companies to charge older Americans five times (5x!!!) more for coverage than everyone else, pricing many older Americans out of the market altogether. But the bill doesn’t stop there at taking aim at our families’ health care coverage—it would also double the number of uninsured children in the U.S.! This would create a crisis for our nation and particularly for families in vulnerable communities, including low-income families, people with disabilities, the elderly, and those who live in rural and medically underserved communities, with a compounding impact in Black, Latinx, Asian, Native American, and LGBTQ+ communities.

Not only does the bill target children and people who are poor, sick, elderly, or disabled—it also takes aim at women. The bill would eliminate the coverage guarantee of maternity care, mental health care, and prescription drug coverage. It would also allow insurance companies to discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions like a previous c-section and breast or cervical cancer. The legislation would also defund Planned Parenthood, making it impossible for millions to get the primary and preventive care they need.
Simply put, the U.S. Senate health care repeal bill is an assault on all or our most vulnerable communities. It would be devastating to moms, children, families, and our economy. Its enactment would mean people get sicker, without the care they need.
We need everyone to speak out—there’s no time to waste! The U.S. Senate is trying to get this legislation passed THIS MONTH and we need to tell them that there are no tweaks that will fix this bill. Our lawmakers need to work to strengthen the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid—NOT repeal and dismantle them!
The more people who speak out, the bigger our impact. Take a moment to share this post with your family and friends and post our action link on Facebook and Twitter: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/stop_attacking_families/
Together we can speak out against bullying and stop the attacks on our families’ health care.
