Raising Constituent Voices To Protect Health Care
MomsRising’s Health Care Team has been working hard since the November 2016 election to help protect and advance access to health care by activating our membership to speak out on the importance of the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. During the period of November 2016 - July 2017 our MomsRising volunteers:
- Took over 215,000 online actions;
- Engaged locally on-the-ground in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.;
- Made over 35,000 calls to members of Congress;
- Submitted over 2,400 letters to the editor;
- Sent in over 2,000 stories about the importance of the Affordable Care Act & Medicaid for families that were shared with the media and with leaders;
- Generated dozens of media stories in TV, radio, print, and online publications that demonstrated the importance of access to health care and that real people were paying attention to this issue area.
Lifting up Family Stories
MomsRising volunteers delivered stories of how people have been helped by access to health care from every state in the nation to every single member of Congress in their Washington, D.C. offices multiple times. Additionally, MomsRising volunteers and staff also led over 30 local on-the-ground deliveries of health care stories across the country to members’ of Congress offices, including in: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia,
and Washington, D.C.
Further, MomsRising members shared their stories at multiple rallies, Congressional events, and media outreach moments in Washington, D.C. and across the nation to educate leaders and the nation about how the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid strengthens families and our economy.
Videos
MomsRising generated eleven videos that highlight our member stories (three in collaboration with MoveOn.org and eight live videos via our Facebook page). We also produced an informative video that explains what “block grants” and “per capita caps” mean:
