The moms of America cheered as our nation’s health care survived another dangerous and unnecessary attack today, when Senate leaders were forced to cancel plans for a vote on yet another health care repeal bill that would have devastated the nation. Of all the proposals put forward over the past several months, Graham-Cassidy was the worst, and moms can breathe a sigh of relief today knowing that it won’t become law.
Graham-Cassidy would have been a disaster for our families and our economy. These bills have all failed because the resistance is strong and will not be defeated. The country does not want Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act and dismantle our nation’s health care system. Today’s triumph is thanks to the tireless work of millions of mothers and other activists across our nation who spoke out against partisan politics and in support of affordable health care. Over the past several months, MomsRising members have taken hundreds of thousands of actions, sharing their stories, calling or emailing their legislators, writing letters to the editor, showing up for town halls, delivering cupcakes to Senators, and much more to defeat the various repeal bills.
We thank the many Senators who came out against this awful bill. And while we celebrate this victory, we know that the struggle is not over. Too many Republicans in Congress have made clear that they will stop at nothing to take away our families’ health care. The moms of America will continue to oppose any measure that would make health insurance less affordable, less accessible and less comprehensive, and we will continue to demand that our lawmakers work in a bipartisan fashion to strengthen our health care system, not tear it apart.
