Everything You Need to Know About We Are MomsRising!
I don’t know about you, but lately the doom and gloom of politics makes my head spin. It is hard to not only keep up with what is happening but also on what to make of it all.
When everything feels like it is going wrong, it is more important than ever to find moments of inspiration. For me, one of the most empowering tools we have at MomsRising is the collective power of storytelling. Yes, storytelling! Over the years, we’ve been able to have major victories thanks to moms, dads, grandparents, and concerned voters using their outside voices to tell their truths. Elected officials, the media, and those in power listen when we share our stories. Our stories also help change the narrative and fight against misinformation.
We are starting a new project here at MomsRising where we are showcasing powerful stories just like yours. This project, titled We Are MomsRising, will mimic the Humans of New York style of sharing stories. We will be sharing how programs that help families, like SNAP, Head Start, and Medicaid, boost real moms and families across the country and what supports working families use (be it WIC or SNAP, healthcare or nutrition assistance, help from a neighbor, paid sick days, or a great childcare provider) to both work and raise their family. While we are at it, we also want to highlight the stories of what it means to be a mom in 2018--the good, the bad, the stressful, and the hilarious.
