My mother Kay Smith, who is now 92, taught me so much….I learned from my mom to never accept a lousy seat in a restaurant. Usually women are seated by the kitchen and I always speak up—and am moved. She taught me to immediately call or send a message when someone is in trouble or has lost a loved one and to go to every funeral or wedding or celebration that happens…no one will ever forget you spent the time and energy to make it happen in their lives. She taught me to be unafraid to speak up when I see a problem…and to be committed to making the change happen.
