‘This Is a Sad Day for Our Country,’ Moms Leader Says, ‘But We Will Respond With Our Votes’

“Our country is more divided, our highest court is less legitimate, and our elected officials are less credible after the United States Senate voted today to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to a lifetime appointment on the U.S. Supreme Court. This was a shameful, unforgivable vote – and every Senator who supported Kavanaugh will be held accountable, not just for today’s vote but also for the hardship and pain it brings to millions of women, moms, and families in the months, years, and even decades ahead.
“We once again express our admiration and gratitude for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and the other survivors of sexual violence who courageously came forward to share their stories. We commit to ensuring that their selflessness and bravery was not in vain. We will long remember this disgraceful confirmation process and the so-called FBI investigation, which was nothing more than a sham.
“The moms of America will respond in the way that matters most, with our votes. We will not allow President Trump’s sexist, racist, xenophobic, anti-immigrant agenda to prevail. Together, we will muster the hope, the dreams, the rage, the joy, the will and the strength to become a nation in which every one of us can thrive, regardless of our gender, race, income, immigration status, gender identity, or any other characteristic. That is our power and it was unleashed today.
“Perhaps we should not be surprised that senators who failed to recognize that Kavanaugh’s record on health care, women’s reproductive autonomy, gun safety, and workers’, immigrants’ and LGBTQ+ rights was disqualifying would also be unmoved when he lied under oath and faced credible allegations of sexual assault. Fifty-one senators may have been unmoved, but the country was not.
“We are a different nation than we were before this vote. The moms of America will respond. We will fight back, we will vote, and, in the end, we will prevail.”
