America’s Moms Cheer Selection of Kamala Harris
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“America’s moms rejoice that, for the first time in our country’s history, a major political party’s presidential ticket includes a woman of color. This historic choice – the first African American and Asian American woman vice-presidential candidate on a major ticket – is long overdue. Our nation’s rich diversity should always be reflected in its candidates for high office and its leaders.
“Her positions on critical issues, record in the U.S. Senate, and life history make U.S. Senator Kamala Harris extremely well qualified to serve as vice president. The daughter of immigrants, she has an unshakeable commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of immigrants and asylum seekers. A trailblazing working woman, she understands the urgent need to end discrimination in all its forms and eliminate barriers that prevent women, and women of color in particular, from thriving in the workplace. The child of activist parents, she is deeply committed to ending systemic racism and the division and hatred stoked over the last four years.
“Our country’s moms will reject those who question Sen. Harris’ qualifications or try to diminish her with sexist or racist attacks. As the country contends with the worst pandemic in 100 years, the most punishing economic crisis since the Great Depression, and a racial reckoning that is long overdue, Sen. Harris’ rich experience, keen intellect, integrity, and compassion will inform our national debates and make us stronger."
