America’s Moms Want Clean Air & Water, Quality Health Care, Safe Job Sites. Today SCOTUS Jeopardized All That.

Statement of Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and CEO of MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the U.S. Supreme Court rulings today in Loper Bright v Raimondo and Relentless, Inc. v Department of Commerce:

“Today the U.S. Supreme Court again upended long-standing precedent and jeopardized the country’s health, this time by granting courts – instead of experts at federal agencies – the authority to shape regulations designed to protect our health and safety. This judicial power grab will mean judges and justices without scientific and medical expertise, and some with ultra-conservative views and deep ties to special interests, now make decisions that affect our health and safety. This reckless ruling could bring more air pollution, dirtier drinking water, more unsafe workplaces, massive damage to our public health, and fewer consumer rights and protections.

“We are especially concerned that ultra conservative jurists now have much greater authority to ignore experts and set rules affecting contraceptive coverage and federal family planning, workplace safety, wage protections, nursing home safety, and more. Moms want federal agencies to protect our health; support patients, consumers and working people; and hold corporations that break the law accountable. Today’s rulings will undermine all that and make it harder for our government to protect us from harm. SCOTUS today handed a major victory to corporate polluters, billionaires, and special interests – and a huge loss to the country.”
