An Urgent Call from America’s Moms to the U.S. Senate: Pass the HEROES Act Now, So Working Families Will Have the Paid Leave and Other Essential Supports to Make It Through This Pandemic

“America’s moms are thrilled and grateful that the U.S. House of Representatives passed the HEROES (Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions) Act this evening. We thank Speaker Pelosi and every representative who voted for this vitally important legislation, which provides access to paid leave/sick days, health care, nutrition assistance, some federal-level decarceration, aid to state and local governments, direct payments for struggling families, including immigrant families, and more.
“As we struggle through the greatest health and economic challenge the country has faced in a century, we are counting on U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to immediately bring the HEROES Act up for a vote -- and to pass it.
Plain and simple, slow-walking this bill will bring more hunger, more homelessness, and more pain to America’s families and our economy.
“When the U.S. Senate passes it, President Trump must then immediately sign it into law.
“There’s no time to waste. Even when the HEROES Act becomes law, the work to get the nation through this emergency will not be done. Congress must immediately turn its attention to creating more pathways and funding to reduce incarceration, which is critical to public health; and to the emerging crisis in child care, which has become a national emergency with centers closing every day and many not expected to reopen. To address the child care emergency, Congress must immediately increase funding to stave off the collapse of our child care system, which would cripple economic recovery by making it impossible for parents of young children to return to the workforce. The clock is ticking for families and our economy.”
