As Prices Rise, Moms and Families Need U.S. Senate to Pass Build Back Better Act More Than Ever

“The Consumer Price Index December report, out this morning, is sobering confirmation of what moms and families already know: Prices for essentials, including food, housing and energy, continue to rise, making it extremely difficult for many families to provide for their kids and make ends meet. This report underscores the urgent need for Congress to pass the components of the Build Back Better Act immediately, including extending the expanded Child Tax Credit, because taking away this lifeline is unthinkable as families struggle to cover the rent, put food on the table and gas in their cars, buy shoes and school supplies for their kids, heat their homes, pay for the child care that allows moms to get and stay in jobs, and more.
“Families and businesses need the Build Back Better Act because it extends the expanded Child Tax Credit as well as reduces child care and prescription drug costs, provides the paid family/medical leave working families urgently need, makes home- and community-based services available to seniors and people with disabilities, provides protections for immigrants so they can fully participate in the workforce, and creates millions of good jobs for women. “

“All together, these Build Back Better policies will lower costs for families and address worker shortages, which are the root cause of many supply chain issues that are driving inflation. Too many mothers have been driven out of the workforce during the COVID pandemic because of our nation’s woefully inadequate care infrastructure. Build Back Better will give families access to affordable child and elder care, as well as the paid family/medical leave they need to stay in their jobs.”
