Moms Leader Calls Trump Administration Attacks on Transgender People ‘Heartless and Ugly’

Statement from Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, CEO and executive director of MomsRising, an online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the New York Times report that the Trump administration plans to “define transgender out of existence.”

“We will not stand for the Trump administration’s horrifying, vicious political attack, which attempts to erase the identity of nearly two million transgender people in this country. 

“Trans people face violence and discrimination in the military, the workforce, health care, housing and education. The Trump administration has already rolled back gains in racial and gender justice. Further narrowing civil rights laws would exacerbate the harm, putting the transgender community -- as well as women, mothers and many others -- at greater risk for harassment, discrimination and persecution. The impact on those at the intersection of race, gender and sexual identity would be severe.  

“Nothing Trump administration officials do can erase trans people and it is heartless and ugly for them to try. The moms of America are committed to full and equal rights for transgender people and for all people. We are repulsed by the politics of division that seem to drive this administration’s actions. True leadership is bringing people together and boosting us all.

“Trans people will not be erased and all those who try to do so must be soundly and permanently defeated.”
