What do you get when you mix former D.C. schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett?

You get bad policies for kids and bad policies for our schools.

What if you add a sprinkle of ultra-conservative, anti-public education billionaires for good measure?

You get bad policies for kids and schools—on steroids.

As an educator and resident of Wisconsin, I am appalled at the company that my governor keeps.

The American Federation for Children (AFC), which hosted Walker, Corbett and Rhee in Washington this week, is a group founded by the conservative billionaire DeVos family and a small core group of donors ideologically opposed to public education.

In addition to spending millions of dollars to end public education as we know it, AFC promotes schemes that take tax dollars from our public schools to fund private and religious schools at taxpayer expense.

Walker and Corbett are carrying the water for DeVos and AFC, attacking teachers and students while gutting public education funding and silencing their voices.

Rhee’s reputation is in shambles after USA Today, in a lengthy investigation featuring a dozen reporters, discovered inexplicable test erasure rates in more than half of the District’s public schools.

Wisconsin can’t afford the type of education vision that AFC, Rhee and Corbett are promoting.

Teachers are working hard across Wisconsin to provide our students the best education possible. Our children deserve nothing less.

Shame on Gov. Walker for standing up with AFC, Rhee and Corbett; we need him to stand up with the hardworking teachers, parents and educators of Wisconsin.
