#FoodFri Tweetchat: Food Workers + Living Wage #LivingOffTips
Valentine's Day is the highest grossing day of the year for the restaurant industry. According to the National Restaurant Association, restaurants are expected to serve a whooping 70 million diners for Valentine’s Day. While restaurants reap the benefits, their servers are earning poverty wages and living off tips.
This #FoodFri, we invite everyone to show some love to servers and support a raise to the subminimum wage of $2.13 by tweeting your appreciation with #FoodFri and #loveyourserver. Servers earning a subminimum wage of $2.13 means they must depend on tips. This means you never know what you're wage is gonna be. This is not living.
Sustainable food isn't just about how organic or local the food is, but how high workers can hold their heads.
