Companies target our kids with apps, digital coupons and more, often when parents aren't around. This changes the game when it comes to parent ability to control what our kids see and eat, and is a powerful reminder of why companies need to back parents up when it comes to promoting the health of our kids.

According to the Berkeley Media Studies Group, "Of all the tactics fast food, snack food, and soft drink companies routinely use to target children and adolescents, many fall into five broad categories:

  • Creating immersive environments
  • Infiltrating social networks
  • Location-based and mobile marketing
  • Collecting personal data
  • Studying and triggering the subconscious"
