This month, MomsRising – and our new Spanish-language community, MamásConPoder! – have so much to celebrate. It is Black History Month, and the fifth year in a row that we bring to you this special blog edition – or “carnival”! -- by MomsRising staff members, policy partners, bloggers, and advocates of the Black diaspora from across the web. 

It is also our 10th anniversary as an organization.

We’ve been building a multicultural movement for and by all families since our inception in May 2006. Today we are over a million volunteers strong, people representing every state, race, creed, gender – all with the common goal to create a country, in which all of our families have economic security, all of our children can thrive, and once and for all, we end discrimination. (Few people talk about it, but moms and women of color are among those who face the highest wage discrimination.) In other words, ours is an intersectional movement – the theme of this year’s Black History Month Blog Carnival.

In honor of our foremothers and forefathers whose shoulders we stand on, we hope you'll join us in celebrating their legacy, exploring the issues facing Black women and families today, and committing to being the best allies possible.
