MomsRising regularly shares stories from our volunteers with members of Congress, state legislators, and other decision makers. From written stories, to videos, to in-person meetings—our overarching goal is to lift and amplify the voices of our members in every step of the policymaking process.
At least once per quarter, MomsRising delivers storybooks about our current policy priorities to every member of Congress via messenger to their offices in Washington, D.C. We also often hand-deliver stories with fun, eye-catching treats & catchy slogans, to their D.C. and district offices. These storybooks include both multi-issue and issue-specific topics, including Child Care, Paid Family & Medical Leave, Aging & Disability Care, Child Tax Credit, WIC, SNAP, Protecting Immigrant Families, Medicaid, Maternal Health, and many more.
Additionally, we deliver select groupings of stories via email to legislators when there is momentum around a specific issue. For example, we recently sent stories along with a policy memo to members of Congress about IVF. We also regularly respond to requests from members of Congress for stories about a specific issue.
As we continuously gather and amplify stories, we often share them on social media and in traditional media. Here are some examples:
- In response to our recent WIC campaign, we had many members submit a video story, which we shared on our social media and tagged key legislators.
- As part of our Child Tax Credit campaign, we created images with our member’s written stories which we shared on social media and tagged key legislators.
- In an effort to be heard by a broader audience (and perhaps some hard-to-reach legislators), we also assist in placing Op-Eds, letters to the editor, and media stories featuring our member stories in members’ of Congress local papers and on local news channels. Oftentimes, we will doubledown on these publications by sharing them via social media with the lawmakers as well.
Finally, we have an ongoing storyteller development program where we offer storytellers support and training, and then as opportunities arise, invite them to share their stories directly with decision makers, in meetings with administrative officials and staff, and in Congressional hearings.
