On August 19 the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services published the application for Parole in Place for undocumented immigrant spouses, and stepchildren, of U.S. citizens. This is part of a June announcement by the Biden Administration to keep families together.
Under this policy announcement, an estimated 500,000 spouses could stay in the U.S. with their families while obtaining legal status. People who are undocumented and married to U.S. citizens will be able to apply for work permits and won't be a priority for deportation. This program will be in place for three years. In that time, spouses can apply for a green card.

Until August 19, the process required applicants to leave the country during the application evaluation for a green card, with no gurantee of being approved or let back into the country. Now, the Biden Administration has removed that step which means many spouses don't have to be separated from their children or families during the review process.
Additionally, 50,000 stepchildren could also benefit from this announcement but their requirements differ.
