Pregnancy-related mortality and morbidity rates are on the rise in this country. Each year, 700 to 900 women die from pregnancy or childbirth-related causes in the U.S., and approximately 65,000 experience serious complications. For Black women, the statistics are even worse. Regardless of socioeconomic status and education, Black women are three to four times more likely to die from childbirth than non-Hispanic White women.
