Tamara Cox Baker is Project and Communications Director for No Kid Hungry North Carolina, which is based at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
No Kid Hungry works throughout North Carolina and is part of a national movement to improve access to underused federal child nutrition programs. Part of the organization since its 2011 formation in North Carolina, Tamara leads the communications and focus on Summer and Afterschool Nutrition federal programs for
children for her team. She also directs the team’s federal SNAP-Education grant for improving nutrition policy, systems and related environment for children in low income areas.
After graduating from Columbia College in South Carolina, Tamara began her career in Washington, DC, as press secretary for a member of the House Agriculture Committee in Congress. She worked with USDA information services before moving to a large public relations agency where she led global public relations for the relief agency Feed the Children. She was relocated back to North Carolina by the pharmaceutical leader GlaxoSmithKline. Her career focus has been on strategic communications, public relations, and cause management.
