"BORN" Hits The Public Radio Airwaves Next Month
Hello MomsRising Community!
I am a mother, soon to be a mother of two, and an award-winning public radio producer. I am spreading the word about my upcoming public radio documentary BORN which will air in March for Women's History Month.
My production partner, Tania Ketenjian, and I produced the critically acclaimed public radio documentary BIRTH in 2007, after the birth of my son. In becoming a mother in this country, I was struck by the mass amount of media information about pregnancy and birth, and the stark drop off in attention regarding what happens after a baby comes. What on earth is our country doing for new mothers and families? The lack of support most new families have in this country compared to all other developed countries in around the world is staggering. And so, BORN was born.
Did you know that "The U.S is one of only 4 countries that doesn't offer paid leave to new mothers -- the others are Papua New Guinea, Swaziland, and Lesotho."
BORN is a public radio journey about the postpartum experience in contemporary American life looking at the ways in which a woman, a family and American communities evolve after a birth. Amongst many questions, BORN seeks to explore following: How do our societal, professional and governmental systems support new mothers and families after a child is born? What happens to a mother and child the first few months after birth? From the physiological, emotional and psychological perspective, BORN reveals how new mothers and families explore the boundaries between work and motherhood in America.
In addition to a range of personal stories and everyday people, Tania and I interviewed expert speakers such as: Joan Blades - Founder of MomsRising, Louanne Brizendine, M.D. - Author of The Female Brain, James F. Leckman, M.D., Director of Research - Neison Harris Professor of Child Psychiatry and Pediatrics Child Study Center at Yale University School of Medicine, Riane Eisler - Author of The Real Wealth of Nations, Louis Cozolino, Ph.D, Pepperdine University - Author of The Neuroscience of Human Relationships - Attachment and the Developing Social Brain and Sarah Blaffer Hrdy, Ph.D - Author of Mother Nature: A History of Mothers, Infants, and Natural Selection.
BORN is nationally distributed by Public Radio International (PRI) and available to public radio stations during Women's History Month, which is next month!
Please call and/or email and invite your friends to contact the local public radio station in your respective community to request that BORN be programmed.
