Moms Group Calls on U.S. Senators to Shut Down Senate, Block SCOTUS Nominee
February 1, 2017
Since taking the oath of office, President Trump has pursued an agenda that undermines the values of our communities and the democratic principles that make our nation great. With so much at stake, it is critical that the U.S. Supreme Court remains an independent check on Presidential authority - one that protects the rights of all people and stands firm against discrimination. Neil Gorsuch will not be that check.
As moms, dads, and people across the nation, we know our families, our communities and our country, simply cannot afford a Supreme Court judge, with a lifetime appointment, that rubber stamps Trump’s unconstitutional agenda into law. This is not the future we seek to build for our children.
For members of the U.S. Senate, the question is simple: will Trump’s policies be pursued for one term, or forever codified into our nation’s law through the U.S. Supreme Court.
We ask this question with the most intensity to the Democrat members of the U.S. Senate who endured nearly a year of unprecedented delays from the Republican members of the U.S. Senate on confirming President Obama’s selection for the U.S. Supreme Court — a nominee that was ultimately fully blocked and whose seat we are discussing today.
MomsRising’s more than 1 million members know that now is not the time for business as usual. Trump threatens the fabric of our democracy, our national and economic security and our communities. All U.S. Senators, and particularly Democrats, must use every tool at their disposal to block the Supreme Court seat that Republicans stole by filibustering Judge Garland for nearly a year. The future of our country depends on it.
