Quality, affordable healthcare coverage is incredibly important to families in the U.S.

MomsRising has recieved thousands of messages from our volunteers with stories about why the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare), Medicaid, CHIP, and Medicare matter for the health of their families. This #ProtectOurCare blog series will highlight many of the stories we've received.

From Sara in Nevada:

"I have Multiple Sclerosis. I have been blessed with good health and good healthcare, but this pre-existing condition meant that prior to the ACA I was not able to change jobs or start my own business, as I was uninsurable as an individual. I always feared what might happen to me if I ever lost my job or became unable to work.

I am able to be productive as long as I get my medications, but they cost more than $1000 per month, so good health insurance is essential. I know many others with MS who have become too disabled to work. Prior to the ACA, this meant waiting years to qualify for social security disability. During that wait, they couldn't afford their medications and their health went down hill as a result. As a nation, we cannot afford to go backward on healthcare. We must ensure that all people have affordable access to healthcare."
