Slashing funding for the advertising that drives consumers to the health insurance marketplace by 90 percent and gutting funding for the navigators who help people purchase insurance plans is a flagrant attempt to drive down enrollment and to sabotage the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If it stands, this action will destabilize the federal health insurance marketplace and undermine the ACA. It is sabotage, plain and simple – and it’s an insult to the American people who have stood up to show overwhelming support for the ACA.
 
President Trump has a responsibility to improve our health care system, not to sabotage it. The ACA has been a tremendous success, driving our country’s uninsured rate to a historic low, decreasing medical bankruptcy by half, and helping families across the nation – many of whom had never before been insured – gain quality, affordable coverage. Despite overwhelming public support for it, the Trump administration is aggressively trying to cause the ACA to fail after America’s families stopped the most recent attempt to repeal it. This is a disgraceful attempt to advance a political agenda without regard for the very real harm it will cause to the health and wellbeing America’s families, communities and our economy.
 
The country does not want the ACA to be repealed or sabotaged. This is an assault on our health care and, like so much of what the Trump administration does, it will hurt low-income and vulnerable families, people with disabilities, the elderly, and those who live in rural and medically underserved communities most – with a compounding impact in Black, Latinx, Asian, Native American, and LGBTQ+ communities. We urge the administration to reconsider these destructive cuts.
