I am the parent of a five year old boy with Down syndrome, whose diagnosis and co-occurring conditions have made me passionate about advocacy, especially when it comes to healthcare and education. I’m also the owner of Kinderdance of Guilford County and Board President of the Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro, a volunteer-run organization that provides resources to individuals with Down syndrome and their families in Greensboro North Carolina and beyond.

The year my son Javier turned two, he and I spent a huge amount of time traveling around North Carolina and speaking to anyone who would listen about his healthcare needs. Javi has Down syndrome, and along with that he has many co-occuring conditions, including two holes in his heart, kidney and gastrointestinal reflux, severe obstructive sleep apnea, and a floppy airway.
