Maya is a journalist and communications professional focused on social justice and issues that specifically impact people of color. Maya claims both Hampton, Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia as home, but has settled in the D.C. area for now, where she serves as a communications associate at Advancement Project National Office. Maya is a communications fellow with Community Change, a national social justice organization based in D.C., where she covers issues impacting low income families and people of color, as well as the work of advocates and organizers doing the work to mobilize marginalized communities across the country.

Access to quality child care is a necessity, particularly as we face the COVID-19 crisis that has transformed our lives. Child care workers set a solid foundation for many families, caring for children to allow parents to go to work without worry. Think about the young children of nurses, doctors, cashiers at local stores. Where can they send their children to be properly taken care of while they work through this pandemic to save people.
