Washington State, let's modernize our paid sick leave laws this legislative session!
Now, with the start of the 2024 legislative session, we have the chance to make paid leave more accessible to families. This is our chance to let our lawmakers know that HB 1991 / SB 5793 is necessary to modernize our paid leave laws.
What are we asking for?
We are asking our lawmakers to update our laws to: add chosen family to the definition of “family” and allow Washingtonians to take Paid Sick Leave for extreme weather such as snow days or extreme heat.
Why?
Our current laws are outdated and if we want to make paid leave more accessible to families and caregivers, we need to acknowledge that family is more than our blood relatives and that inclement weather does impact caregiving responsibilities. SB 5793 is being heard in the State Senate on Monday, January 15th at 10:30am and we need your help sending a strong message of support.
Join us in letting our lawmakers know that it is time we update our paid leave laws!
